The Mazda CX-5 is the Mazda brand's top-selling model, for numerous reasons. Chief among these are its exemplary performance, exceptional safety ratings, and leading-edge technology. Although competition in the compact SUV class is fierce, Colonial Mazda explains here why the Mazda CX-5 is the clear-cut choice.
Just like rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester, the Mazda CX-5 offers one gas-powered engine choice. While it's comparable in horsepower and torque to those of its rivals, our new Mazda SUV has a huge advantage in terms of performance.
For one thing, the Mazda CX-5 boasts arguably the best steering and handling in its class. This means gripping, sporty performance and a more exciting ride than models such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4, which are more conservatively engineered.
In 2026, the Mazda CX-5 was one of only nine Mazda automobiles to win a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. On the other hand, rivals such as the Nissan Rogue and the Volkswagen Tiguan didn't make the list.
Moreover, the Mazda CX-5 has earned a perfect five-star overall score in NHTSA crash tests in recent years. The same can't be said for competitors such as the Jeep® Compass or Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. A significant contributor to the achievements of the Mazda CX-5 is its i-Activsense® suite of advanced driver assistance systems, which comes standard on every trim at our Danbury, CT Mazda dealership.
In the category of infotainment, a big gap exists between the Mazda CX-5 and the competition. This is evident in detail such as touchscreen size, where the Mazda CX-5 offers an available 15.6-inch screen that's the largest in this class. By comparison, the Subaru Crosstrek tops out at 11.6 inches and the Chevy Trax at 11.0 inches.
Though its rivals have their merits, the Mazda CX-5 is the clear choice if you want to own one of the auto industry's safest, most exciting, most high-tech compact SUVs.
